Our passion

We are passionate about barges and over the last 15 years have fitted out many barges including the Humber keel barge that Richard bought as a bare hull for his own home.

Building your dreams

Our carpenters have converted several barges for a company called Dutch Barges Ltd who can find you the barge that best suits your needs. Once you have chosen a barge we will design its interior, whether it is for cruising the canals or to be used as a houseboat. Our carpenters have a vast experience of building and maintaining barges, including fitting bespoke kitchens and wet rooms. We will also advise you on the best locations to fit your fresh water and waste tanks.

We also have contacts with barge builders in Holland if you would like to commission a new build barge. - If you haven't fallen in love with one already!

Dry dock Facility

We have an excellent relationship with a secure local marina in Rochester Kent which has the facility to accommodate your barge in dry dock, or on a working pontoon with good access for materials and free parking.

This enables our carpenters to carry out your Barge conversion without the risk of upsetting the neighbours
at the marina in which you may eventually wish to live as many marinas do not allow major building work on site.

We are also only an hour’s drive from central London if you are considering mooring your barge in London you could bring it to our marina in Rochester to have the work done and then turn up at your mooring in a newly converted barge.

Boat safety scheme

We also have a local Marine surveyor who is also a Boat Safety Examiner authorised to carry out BSS ( Boat Safety Scheme) Examinations and issue the appropriate certificate.

We can arrange for the surveyor to come and survey your barge and issue you with a Boat Safety certificate before your barge leaves for its new moorings.

If any work on your barge is required to get you’re a Boat Safety certificate, then we can arrange for the work to be completed locally on the mooring without delay.

"This is to confirm that I have known and employed Richard over a period of seven years during which time he has converted several of my Dutch barges and especially upon my own personal Dutch barge in which he conducted and oversaw a £165,000 refurbishing programme. Capable as he is of working with several materials commonly used in construction, he comes into his own as a carpenter. He is diligent, careful, creative and reliable. His knowledge of wood; the varieties, textures, strengths and suitability for specific tasks is extraordinary. His talent for quickly shaping wood into serviceable, beautiful and practical shapes is a joy to watch. He fully deserves the title of Master Craftsman. As he is also honest, efficient and a thorough gentleman I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone in need of a builder with specific skills in carpentry."
